Cheryl believes that children and families have tremendous capacity for growth, even when life becomes difficult. Challenges, transitions, relationship struggles, and unexpected experiences can sometimes interrupt healthy development and leave children, adolescents, and families feeling overwhelmed or unsure of what comes next. As a counselor at Natural State Counseling Centers, Cheryl seeks to provide a safe, compassionate, and nonjudgmental environment where clients can work through those challenges and move toward healthier functioning, stronger relationships, and meaningful growth.
Cheryl is a Licensed Professional Counselor, Licensed Marriage and Family Counselor, and Registered Play Therapist. She especially enjoys working with children, adolescents, and families and understands that counseling should meet clients where they are developmentally, emotionally, and relationally.
For children, words are not always the easiest or most natural way to communicate what they are experiencing. Through the therapeutic use of play, Cheryl honors each child’s unique developmental level and creates opportunities for children to express feelings, process experiences, develop new skills, and work through challenges in ways that feel natural to them. She also recognizes the important role parents and families play in a child’s life and values working collaboratively with families throughout the counseling process.
Cheryl’s approach reflects the belief that seeking help is not a sign of weakness but a normal part of being human. As Fred Rogers beautifully expressed, “All of us, at some time or other, need help.” Sometimes we are the ones offering support, and sometimes we are the ones who need someone to walk alongside us.
Cheryl is excited to be part of Natural State Counseling Centers and looks forward to helping children, adolescents, and families discover their strengths, overcome obstacles, strengthen their relationships, and continue moving forward with hope.
